FAQ - Labradorite Dangle Earrings
-
What is labradorite and why does it change color?
Labradorite is a feldspar mineral that displays labradorescence, an optical phenomenon caused by light refracting between microscopic structural layers within the stone. The result is iridescent flashes of blue, green, gold, and sometimes violet that shift as the stone moves. The effect is entirely natural and structural, not a coating or treatment.
-
Is labradorite a valuable gemstone?
Labradorite with strong, vivid labradorescence, particularly in blue and gold tones, is considered more valuable than stones with weak or absent color play. Exceptionally fine specimens with broad, clear color shift are called spectrolite and are among the most prized varieties of labradorite.
-
What zodiac sign is associated with labradorite?
Labradorite is most closely associated with Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Leo. It is considered a stone of transformation and heightened intuition, qualities that resonate with Scorpio's depth, Sagittarius's sense of possibility, and Leo's magnetic self-expression.
-
Will labradorite's color flash show in all lighting?
Labradorite's color play is most visible in direct or angled light. Under flat or diffuse lighting, the stone may appear mostly gray. The best way to experience labradorescence is to tilt the stone in natural light or under a lamp, which reveals the full spectrum of color hidden within.
-
How do I care for labradorite earrings?
Labradorite has a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5 and requires gentle care. Clean with mild soap and cool water, avoid ultrasonic cleaners, and store separately from harder gems. Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying perfume to protect both the stone and the metal setting.

More Details
Labradorite Dangle Earrings
Not every stone announces itself. Labradorite earrings are the kind of piece that earns a second look, dark charcoal gray that transforms into flashes of blue, green, and gold depending on the light and angle, held in a sculptural bezel with just enough organic texture to feel genuinely handmade. The more time you spend with them, the more they give back.
Labradorite is associated with intuition, transformation, and the magic of seeing the unexpected. Whether you are gifting them to someone drawn to the stone's particular beauty, marking a personal milestone, or choosing a piece that feels intentional rather than obvious, these earrings carry meaning without announcing it. They resonate with Scorpio, Sagittarius, Leo. Suspended from sculpted shepherd's hooks, they hang at 2 inches and move with you, balanced for all-day wear from the first time you put them on.
Each pair is made to order in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in your choice of sterling silver, 14K gold-fill, rose gold-fill, or oxidized sterling silver. The result is an earring that feels like it belongs somewhere between artisan craft and refined design, as well suited to a cashmere sweater as a structured blazer.

About This Stone
Labradorite is a feldspar mineral named for the Labrador Peninsula in Canada where significant deposits were first documented, though the stone is also found in Finland, Madagascar, and Mexico. Its defining characteristic is labradorescence, an optical phenomenon where light reflects off internal structural layers to produce flashes of iridescent color: blue, green, gold, and occasionally violet, shifting as the stone or the viewer moves. No two labradorite stones produce exactly the same display, which makes every pair of these earrings genuinely one of a kind in a way that goes beyond the usual claims. Against a background of jewelry market alternatives, genuine labradorite stands apart from both mass-produced imitations and predictable fine jewelry, it is a stone that requires you to pay attention, and rewards it.
