What gives chrysoprase that color?
Unlike emerald, which gets its green from chromium, chrysoprase glows apple-green from trace amounts of nickel suspended in microscopic quartz crystals. The result is a luminous, almost backlit green — softer than emerald, livelier than jade. It's the rarest and most prized member of the chalcedony family, and the saturated stones we use are increasingly hard to find.

The ancient Greeks called chrysoprase the Stone of Venus, sacred to Aphrodite — goddess of love, beauty, and fresh starts. It was a favorite of Alexander the Great, prized by Roman emperors, and carved into seals, signets, and ornaments for thousands of years.
