Rutilated quartz is clear quartz with fine needles grown inside it, caught mid-formation and frozen there. Ours run black, sharp dark lines suspended in ice-clear stone. Every piece is a different arrangement, some dense and web-like, some a single strand running edge to edge, which means choosing one is closer to choosing a small drawing than picking a gemstone.
The black-on-clear contrast is what makes it so easy to wear. It reads graphic and modern against sterling silver, warmer and more unexpected against 14k gold fill, and it does the rare thing of looking equally right with a linen shirt and with black tie.
Each piece in this collection is handmade to order in our Colorado studio. Because the stones vary, we photograph what we have and send options when a piece is one of a kind.
