How a Piece comes to be

Behind the Design

From a kitchen table in Chicago
Twenty years ago this business started at a kitchen table in Chicago. It grew into Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, and Barneys, and for years a whole team of us made and shipped jewelry in a city I still love. Then I traded all of it for a studio in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Smaller on purpose. These days every piece is designed and made by my hands at one bench, and I would not have it any other way.

How a piece comes to be
Everything here follows the same arc. An idea, or a stone, or sometimes a piece that belonged to someone you love. A sketch. Stones chosen and cut by hand, which is why no two pieces ever leave this studio identical. For custom work, a proof for your approval before anything is set in metal. Then time at the bench, and finally the wrapping, because a piece made with this much consideration deserves to arrive in a lovely home.

The materials
The end product is only as good as its parts. I am an insufferable gem snob on your behalf. Every stone is hand chosen for color, clarity, and brilliance, the metals are recycled, and each piece is made in the USA under conditions I can vouch for personally, since the hands involved are mostly mine.

Made in Steamboat Springs
The studio sits in a mountain valley that I am convinced finds its way into the work. Small-batch by design, minimal waste, and every order handled by a person who knows exactly which piece is yours.
