Care: rubies are rated “excellent” for everyday wear. Avoid exposure to heat and contact with chemicals. To clean, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush and a solution of mild dish soap and warm water, or clean in an at-home ultrasonic unit.

Composition: Ruby is the red variety of the corundum family, comprised of aluminum oxide with traces of chromium for color.

Lore: There are many legends about the ruby. Hindu legends say rubies sprang up from the blood of the Demon God Vala. Thus it is the “King of Precious Stones”, and affords all protection from enemies.  Rubies are also known to guard the wearers’ home and belongings. The Burmese believed a soldier wearing a ruby inside his skin is invincible in battle.  However, if the gem loses its luminosity, it is said to signal impending disaster. It is said the temple of the Holy Grail has a great Ruby atop that shines like a beacon at night.
